I like a wide variety of genres. Probably my all-time favorite would be bluegrass. I don't see how anyone cannot just smile and feel happy when they listen to bluegrass music. A dream of mine is to someday be really good at the guitar (or mandolin or banjo--don't know if there's much hope for me and the fiddle) and be part of a bluegrass group. We don't even have to be a real band...just friends who sit around and pick away on the porch would be fine with me! Among others, I also love folk, folk-rock, country (mostly the older stuff), jam bands (the grateful dead, phish), celtic and classical.
My all-time favorite artist would probably be John Denver. I grew up listening to my parent's John Denver records and tapes and knew who he was but I didn't particularly love him right away. Maybe that's because he wasn't really cool among the middle school crowd and I was trying not to stick out. For whatever reason, I remember teasing my friend Anton on the bus one day because he liked John Denver. Only a year or two later, John Denver was just about the only thing I listened to. I've felt bad about making fun of Anton since then. There's just something about that old John Denver that just feels right.
I had been without a piano in my apartment ever since I moved away from home, that's been at least 10 years, i think. Last year for my birthday Dan and I went to pick out an electric piano for me. I came home with a beautiful Clavinova! I was so excited and have been so happy since then to be able to sit down and play whenever I want to. It's a wonderful stress reliever after a long day at work. It's a way for me to express what I'm feeling. It's an opportunity to renew and continue to develop my talent. It's a blessing that I am so grateful for.
Music is a wonderful thing! Just try to imagine life without music....it's hard, right? I'm so glad that in our family we enjoy music AND enjoy making music.
